To my knowledge, Mercury has not had an unbanded mate, and it seems the females pick the nesting spot. So unless he's quite persuasive (and he might be) they'll nest up wherever they feel is best. Last year, it felt like Snowball couldn't make up her mind and the whole season was sort of "off" if that makes sense. Only time will tell, but we should know something pretty soon.

(it was actually down in a drainage area just off the roof). Let's hope they pick the box this year! Thanks Summergirl. I reckon you didn't see Mercury yet? Yes, it would be very nice to see the cam-nest occupied! Keep my fingers crossed a pair will choose this nest, even if it's not Mercury... Let them be Peregrines in their own peregrine way! Mercury's band is distinctive - it's a single black band....Most other falcons have 2, a colored band on top and a black one below...in addition to the USFWS band on the other leg. However, sometimes the upper band is not visible due to feathers when they perch....

I would be great if we, cam watchers, could help ID the peregrines. Please keep us updated if you can spare the time. We all are very anxious to hear any news about Mercury, good or bad. And if the male of this pair at Liberty Tower is not Merc, we would welcome this new pair anyway! Thanks. Let them be Peregrines in their own peregrine way! Just watch and learn.
