No link. The falcons on our bridge are unpredictable where they lay their eggs so a camera would be fairly useless. A couple of years back they had a motion camera set up in a couple of areas but the still photo shots were random and not really useful.
Each pier on the bridge has a steel beam tube that lays across the top of the pier and they have nested throughout the years in various places in those tubes on both the Ohio and the Kentucky side of the bridge. The photos posted are taken by our nest monitor Chris Smith with ODNR. He has to squeeze himself through one of the tube openings and then crawl on hands and knees to get the photos. And needless to say he also has to deal with the fact that he's under auto traffic, above the river, and fending off two unhappy falcon parents. He does a great job and our area is very lucky to have him.
When the falcon chicks are taken out for banding at three weeks they will be returned to one of the nestboxes that are placed on the bridge and will fledge from there.
Thanks for your interest in our Ironton falcons, the most southern falcons in the state!

Ironton conducted a successful banding on Friday, May 22nd of four chicks. Names selected were Hecla, a female, Iron, Toro, and Loco, all males. Here's a link to the banding story in our local paper, that also has a photo gallery link on the left of the article.

My last report from Chris last year...all four fledged!

I sent one of the guys down last week to see what he could see. He observed all six of the falcons on the upper reaches of the bridge. Which means - all four of the young’ns successfully fledged.
