Yes its a Great Horned owl. Have a few nesting pairs near by in Bradley Woods Metro Park. Normaly you do NOT EVER use a flash on an owl ever ever, but we take care of a few cats that live in our shed. We paid to have them traped and fixed by a Snip-n-time comfort care release a vet fixes them then brings feral cats back to you. So the Owl was hunting in a tree next door. I still do not sleep good and I heard the Owl calling so I went outside at 3 am or some such time found it in the tree next door and figured I could use the flash to let him know it was not welcome. It was a full mooning night and I could see it up in the tree. It stopped calling as soon as I went outside. Even when I was calling to it. I will often call to the Barred Owls and the Great Horned owls at night to see how close they can come to the yard. I had a Barred once hunting Ground Hogs (before lab that now keeps them out of the yard) in the back yard. I got with in 20 feet before it few off, scared the heck out of me as it flew out of the tree less then 6 feet off the ground.
